AUDIO SCRIPT: BIKES & PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

IT’S GETTING EASIER FOR NEW HAVEN CYCLISTS TO USE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. BUT THE COMBINED COMMUTE MAY TAKE EXTRA PLANNING.

CONNECTICUT TRANSIT BUSES NOW HAVE BUILT-IN BIKE RACKS AT THE FRONT OF EVERY BUS. EACH CAN CARRY TWO BIKES.

FOR RAIL COMMUTERS, NEW HAVEN’S UNION STATION OFFERS FREE BIKE PARKING AT THE MAIN GARAGE.

YOU CAN ALSO BRING YOUR BIKE ABOARD A METRO-NORTH TRAIN. BUT YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PERMIT. AND BIKES AREN’T ALLOWED ON PEAK AND HOLIDAY TRAINS.

YOU CAN GET A PERMIT AT GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL, OR YOU CAN SEND IN AN APPLICATION FORM, AVAILABLE AT UNION STATION IN NEW HAVEN OR THE METRO-NORTH WEB SITE. THE FEE IS FIVE DOLLARS.
